Back to my family, they are still in CA, and I am in NM. Every day, after work, I go out and look at homes. If I am to get my family here, I need to buy a home. It was challenging to find a home. There were many on the market, but the prices were very high. The Base had closed some time back. The town was empty and kind of dead. The State reps went to congress and got them to reopen the Base. The city found out the people getting restationed there were coming from Florida. Florida? They said. Their homes are like 300k and up.
The sellers in Clovis started putting homes up for sale and doubled and, in some cases, tripled the prices of their homes. Lucky for me, that happened about one year before I arrived. By the time I got there, most people could see there was no rush of people coming, and if you wanted your home sold, it had to come down. It took another three years before people started moving there. The Airforce hired me to help rebuild the Base. We had completed almost one billion dollars worth of construction by the time I left, but I'm jumping ahead. We, or rather I, found a home. It was a lovely home, so we made an offer on it, and they accepted it. The people who owned the house had moved away to another state when the town died. I could not sell my house in California because the value of our home dropped so much that we could not sell it. The only way we were going to be able to buy another home was to rent it out. How hard can that be with thousands of homes empty in every town and city? It was very hard. After fasting and praying to find someone to rent our place, we received a call from a Lady that lived on the other side of the country. She came from a nice area, Mostly White. I say that because she said that. She was Black. I am not sure why she made that point. Perhaps she was having problems with people wanting to rent to her. She said she had credit problems, but she could put three months' rent up and continue payments. I said that was fine. Hell, I would have taken one month's rent and two goats for a security deposit. I needed a renter. We were able to get everything lined up, and our new home would close on the 1st. She would move into our house one week after we moved out. I flew back to CA to load up the moving trucks.
My inlaws came from Utah to help move us. We were all loaded up and ready to drive to New Mexico. We have been waiting for FedEx to deliver us our closing docs on the new home, so we can move right in when we arrive. Hours later, FedEx still has not come. I called the Realtor, and I was agitated. She said she was looking into it. I got a call back from the Escrow people telling us the home could not close. I asked why before I would explode, as I just became homeless. They said the seller owed 25 thousand more than my offer. He said the owner thought President Obama would cover any financial losses for black people due to the market crash. I was Livid! Beyond mad, I mean, who can be this stupid? I called the Realtor and asked how this could have happened? She admitted that she forgot to conduct a title search and verify if the property. The lack of checking on the title was an epic fail. I told her, I am driving 1200 miles, and I will be moving into that home no matter what, or I will be Filing a Lawsuit suing her and the homeowner. When we arrived, the Realtor was there with the keys and a rental agreement. We did not sign anything.
